Mumbai’s iconic Oval Maidan to be the start-finish point for the IDBI Federal Life Insurance Mumbai Half Marathon on 21st August

MUMBAI, 19th August 2016: The inaugural IDBI Federal Life Insurance Mumbai Half Marathon will flag off from the Karmaveer Bhaurao Patel Marg, popularly known to Mumbaikars as Oval Maidan at 5:45 am followed by the 10K run at6:30 am and 8:45 am for the 5K Heritage run this coming Sunday.

Taking runners past many of Mumbai’s majestic structures reminiscent of the British era, participants will enjoy the historic route as they soak in the old world colonial charm of SoBo. Starting in the backdrop of the Mumbai University building and the Rajabhai Clock Tower, the 21km route will showcase the magnificent Azad Maidan, Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus, Hutatma Chowk, the Gateway of India, Colaba Woods, Nariman Point, the entire length of the Marine Drive promenade, and then Wilson College before making its way back to the finish point at Oval Maidan.

More than 15,000 runners will be participating in the inaugural race on 21st August 2016 that promises total prize money of Rs. 15 lakhs spread across multiple age categories in the 21K and 10K races, giving many a chance to win.

Keeping the safety of participant’s paramount, various initiatives have been introduced by NEB Sports, organizers of the Mumbai Half Marathon. The route will offer 14 aid stations across the 21K stretch with water and energy drinks to keep runners hydrated. There will be volunteers at every 100 meters along the entire 21KM route to spot medical cases with basic medical support and a backup team for escalation in case of medical emergencies. In addition, there will be 6 medical stations fully equipped to handle any medical situations, supported by 6 ambulances with a doctor and nurse plying the entire route. There will be 7 specially crafted cheering zones present across the route to help encourage and motivate runners.

Giving back to the community is a must and runners taking part in IDBI Federal Life Insurance Mumbai Half Marathon will be supporting the events NGO partners - Concern India, Apnalaya and Think Foundation that will benefit from this event. Concern India is a registered non-profit charitable trust that provides financial and non-financial aid to several grassroots organizations. Apnalaya, is a non-profit organization, working with the most marginalized people living in highly under-served slums of Mumbai and Think Foundation works in the areas of Blood Donation, Platelet Donation,Thalassaemia Minor, and Thalassaemia Major.

With an aim to be environmentally friendly and also support the cleanliness of its home city, the IDBI Federal Life Insurance Mumbai Half Marathon has taken the green cause by serving its runners in reusable plates and glasses.
