MTDC participates in SATTE Mumbai West 2016


Mumbai, August 19, 2016: Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) participated in the 5th edition of UBM India, organizers of South Asia’s leading travel trade show, SATTE Mumbai West at the Bombay Convention & Exhibition Centre, Mumbai. The 2- day (19 – 20 August 2016) event was inaugurated by Smt. Swati Kale, General Manager of Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation Ltd,   Chief Guest Mr. Sudhir Patil, President, Maharashtra Tour Organisers' Association; Mr. Mukesh Bhatia, Regional Director (WR), Air India; Mr.Erdel S Ergen, Consul General, Turkey; Ms. Bineshwaree Napaul, Consul General, Mauritius, Mr Michael Duck, Executive Vice President, UBM Asia and Mr. Yogesh Mudras, Managing Director, UBM India.

On participating in SATTE, Smt. Valsa Nair Singh, IAS, Principal Secretary, Tourism & Cultural, Government of Maharashtra Commented, “SATTE is vital and beneficial platform for us; it is one of the premier tourism exhibitions in the South Asia Region.  We have been very pleased to be associated with SATTE and will continue to support them in the coming years as well. The event has helped us in showcasing Maharashtra as a destination to international as well as local markets” 

The event started with power-packed seminars where industry-thought leaders gathered to share their views on the potential, opportunities, challenges and trends of the travel, tourism and hospitality industry with a focus on Western India. The subjects of the conference included 'Promoting Destinations through Cinema Tourism' where the discussion pertained to how national tourist offices and Indian states can further utilize cinema as a marketing tool to promote destinations and drive footfalls.

Shri. Satish Soni, Joint Managing Director of Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation Ltd who was a part of the discussion stated, “Tourism in India is highly influenced by Indian cinema. We want to promote the unexplored destinations of Maharashtra and boost the economy of the country. The cinema industry has been divided into 3 parts which is the location, the people and the economy. Destinations like Shani Shingnapur and Kolapur have been promoted by cinema tourism. MTDC has been approached by couple of producers for shooting in the Institute of Scuba Diving in Tarkarli”   

The inauguration of the exhibition was followed by a destination briefing on Maharashtra Tourism by Smt. Swati Kale, General Manager of Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation Ltd in which she highlighted the geographical diversity of Maharashtra. The state is a complete monsoon paradise which offers different experiences like a Firefly Festival at Bhandarda, a Fort trek at Pratapgad or Lohagad, brimming wildlife and nature trails of Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve and Pench Tiger Reserves and much more. One can sit and enjoy the iconic views at Maharashtra’s famous hill stations like Lonavala, Khandala, Matheran, Chikhaldara.
