The Heart Wants What it Wants

Love at first sight is what happens when you watch Sony Entertainment Television’s new series ‘Dil Hi Toh Hai’ that everyone is talking about. The show will have you instantly fall head over heels in love with its characters and their world, right from the first few frames of the first episode. It is young, it is today, beautiful, fresh, fast-paced, well-written, real and relatable. It has already received a fantastic response in its first week.

The young protagonists – the heir apparent of the ultra-rich pharmaceutical Noon family from Delhi, the arrogant, womanising Rithwik Noon, played by Karan Kundrra, and the middle-class but feisty and compassionate Dr. Palak Sharma, played by Yogita Bihani – hate each other at first sight. You, too, will hate him and love her at first sight. Rithwik is someone you cannot get enough of, just like a bad habit. While, Palak is steady and endearing. She is someone you wish you had in your life. The other youngsters in the show you probably know in your social circles. The elders in the show are progressive but have not forgotten their roots. Rithwik’s mother is a woman who has kept up with the times like so many Indian moms, harbouring her own wishes and desires.

The momentum builds quickly and does not lose you for a second. The unexpected twists and turns grab you by surprise. Coupled with great, natural performances unlike what you are used to seeing on Indian soaps and slick, top-notch editing, you will be left breathless with anticipation for more at the end of each episode. We want more!

The storytelling is so original and crisp. Everything about the series breaks the mould of what we have known fiction shows on Indian television to be. And, surprise, surprise, the queen of fiction shows, Ekta Kapoor, is at the heart of this saga. She has outdone herself by again tapping into the always-changing audience’s mind. If she ushered in a new era on Indian television years ago, now with ‘Dil Hi Toh Hai’ she has hit the reset button for newer audiences while still catering to the television viewer rooted in traditional values.

Once again, Sony Entertainment Television has changed the dynamics of storytelling on television and has given viewers what they want.

After all, the heart wants what it wants – dil hi toh hai.

Tune in to ‘Dil Hi Toh Hai’ every Monday-Friday at 10:00 pm only on Sony Entertainment Television
