‘Competition does not matter’

She has carved a separate niche for herself on the small screen. Now, actress Sanjeeda Sheikh is all-set to make a debut in Punjabi films with AskheGurnaaz Kaur

She entered the television industry when it was undergoing a major overhaul; when saas-bahu sagas were turning into a rage. Actress Sanjeeda Sheikh has seen it all and now witnessing more change. “There are 30-50 people entering the telly industry every day, which is a new phenomenon. This just shows there is work for everyone,” she says. 

So, does that also denote increasing competition? “Yes, there is competition, but it’s a healthy atmosphere for growth. Also, I’ve reached that stage in my career where competition really doesn’t matter,” says a confident Sanjeeda. 

Go with the flow

Sanjeeda may be her name, but she tells, “I am a very fun-loving and jovial person. If at all, I am only serious about my work. For everything else in life, I like to go with the flow.” 

With over 13 years of experience, this actress is in a space like never before. She has made a debut in Punjabi film industry with the film Askhe. Slated to release on July 27, this film is special for Sanjeeda for more than one reason. “Getting a break is big for me and to be paired against Amrinder Gill is even bigger. Within a span of three days, everything got finalised and it all just happened like a dream. My experience of shooting in Punjab has been outstanding. Amrinder is a very helpful person and a brilliant actor. He knew Punjabi is a new language for me and helped me with my pronunciation,” she says.

Bhangra blast

Ashke is a film that will celebrate the spirit of Punjab’s folk dance, bhangra. Based on a real story, it has music, dance and a love story. “I play a college girl who is in love with Amrinder. The makers are very creative and have a message for the audience. While it is my first Punjabi film, it is definitely different from the work that Amrinder has done in the past,” she says.
