MAMI: Renuka Shahane, Kabir Khan, Parvathy share their thoughts on #Metoo Movement

A day after Anupama Chopra said that the MAMI Mumbai Film Festival was in solidarity with the #MeToo movement, and understands the pain caused by its decision to drop some of the films from the event, filmmaker Kabir Khan, Shonali Bose, Renuka Shahane and Malayalam actors Padmapriya and Parvathy lent their support to the movement during a special session at the fest. Actress Renuka, who had come out in support of victims of sexual harassment, emphasised on the need to distinguish between the artist and the person, on account of the various allegations brought against several top actors, director and music composers in the industry. “You could be very talented, do a lot of social work but still be a deeply misogynistic person. His behaviour towards women or anyone for that matter could be atrocious,” she was quoted saying at the event. Opening up about the repercussions of speaking up about such incidents within the industry, Parvathy was quoted saying that many of the actresses in the Malayalam industry didn’t get any work because they spoke up. Admitting that they “have regrets,” she affirmed that “someone had to take a stand.” Filmmaker Kabir Khan also shared his views on the same and said that there were "hushed whispers" about most of the people who have been named in the #MeToo movement, but everyone ignored it and said that they “all have been complicit.”
