Qatar Airways partners with Smile Foundation to celebrate Mother’s Day 

~Leading Television Actress Sakshi Tanwar spread warmth and joy with underprivileged kids~

09 May 2019, Mumbai, India – Qatar Airways and Smile Foundation, a nonprofit organization that works towards benefiting over 75,000 children every year through welfare projects on education, healthcare, livelihood and women empowerment, together celebrated Mother’s Day with the underprivileged children of the organization. The event saw famous television actress and the queen of small screen – Sakshi Tanwar interacting and playing with the children today at Smile Partner – SHED (Society for Human and Environment Development).  

Qatar Airways is a proud supporter of Educate- A Child programme, which helps in providing quality primary school education to millions of out-of-school children globally. Through this initiative, Qatar Airways on the occasion of Mother’s Day provided underprivileged children of a Smile Foundation with games that stimulate and charge early childhood development. This programme works towards the mind growth of the child and enhances learning ability to absorb new information effectively and efficiently. 

Sakshi Tanwar, known for playing mother-led roles on television and the big screen, spread warmth and love to these underprivileged children. The children welcomed her at their Remedial Education Center and interacted with her. They spoke about the importance of mothers in their lives and how their mothers have helped them in supporting and getting the best of education that they can afford. Later, Sakshi spoke about the role of mothers in molding and building the child’s future. Post the interactive session, the group of children were divided into teams for an art competition – creating the best greeting card for their mother which was judged by Sakshi. The wining team won prizes from Qatar Airways.

Qatar Airways Senior Manager ISC, Commercial Management, Mr. Naveen Chawla, said: “We are delighted to collaborate with Smile Foundation on the occasion of Mother’s Day supporting the underprivileged children here in Mumbai. Corporate Social Responsibility is an important pillar for us at Qatar Airways and we have been working extensively to support education for children across the globe.”

Commenting on the association, Smile Foundation spokesperson said, “Smile Foundation, an organization working for betterment of lives of children for the last 17 years has collaborated today with Qatar Airways to celebrate Mother’s day. The children of the center, SHED, supported by Smile Foundation actively participated in the event and was very happy for the joint collaboration with Qatar Airways team to celebrate Mother’s day with fun filled activity.”

Corporate Social Responsibility is an important part of Qatar Airways’ values. In 2017 the airline renewed its sponsorship as Official Airline Partner to Orbis UK for a further three years. The airline has been a proud sponsor of Orbis and its blindness prevention programmes since 2012. Additionally, the airline has partnered with Doha’s Shafallah Centre, Qatar’s special needs association, to provide adults with special needs employment opportunities at Qatar Airways.

Qatar Airways will add a number of new destinations to its extensive route network in 2019, including Malta; Lisbon, Portugal; Izmir, Turkey; Rabat, Morocco; Langkawi, Malaysia; Davao, Philippines; and Mogadishu, Somalia.
